In a refreshingly candid conversation on the Unfiltered by Samdish podcast, former Bollywood heartthrob Imran Khan has opened up about the harsh realities of his financial situation, debunking long-held assumptions about nepotism and family wealth in the film industry.
Best known for his charming debut in the 2008 blockbuster Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, Imran addressed the persistent “nepo kid” tag head-on. Despite being related to superstar Aamir Khan—his mother’s cousin—the actor made it clear that familial connections do not translate to financial handouts.
“My uncle Aamir is a movie star. He’s my mom’s cousin brother… that’s not my money, that’s not coming to me,” Imran stated firmly, putting an end to speculation that he has been banking on his famous uncle’s fortune.
The actor, who has been on a self-imposed hiatus from films since his last release in 2015, admitted that his finances have taken a significant hit in recent years. A divorce and a decade away from the spotlight have contributed to what he described as “worsening” financial circumstances. Assets were divided post-separation, and his net worth is now considerably lower than during his peak years in the industry.
Yet, Imran revealed a silver lining in his prudent financial planning. “I’m not stressed about paying bills even though I haven’t worked in almost 10 years,” he shared, crediting careful management for keeping him afloat during his extended break.
Reflecting on his career earnings, Imran traced his journey from modest beginnings to substantial paychecks. Early in his career, he earned relatively small fees—around ₹5 lakh for one project. However, the massive success of his debut propelled his remuneration skyward, with his highest fee reaching an impressive ₹12 crore for a single film.
He also shed light on the growing pay disparity in Bollywood. According to Imran, today’s top A-listers such as Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor command at least ₹30 crore per film, highlighting the widening gap between the industry’s elite and the rest.
After years away from the silver screen, Imran is gearing up for a comeback. He will star in the comedy-drama Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, directed by Vir Das and scheduled for release on January 16, 2026. Adding to the excitement, the film will feature a special appearance by none other than Aamir Khan.
Imran Khan’s honest revelations have reignited conversations about nepotism, the economic realities of Bollywood, and the often-glamorized lives of its stars. His story serves as a reminder that behind the spotlight, even those with famous last names face the same financial pressures as anyone else.
