Adam Sandler, the beloved comedian and actor, delivered a touching and humorous acceptance speech at the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Film Awards Gala on January 3, where he received the prestigious Chairman’s Award for his acclaimed performance in the Netflix film Jay Kelly.
During his remarks, Sandler reflected on an alternate life path, imagining what might have happened if his acting career hadn’t taken off after college. He recounted how his father, an electrical contractor, had given him one year to pursue acting before joining the family business.
“I sometimes think about it — if I didn’t click that year and I did go work for my dad, what my life would be right now,” Sandler shared with the star-studded audience. “First off, I’m thinking I’d probably still be married to my wife, Jackie. That’s destiny. Nothing stops that.”
The 59-year-old star then added his signature comedic twist: “But we definitely [would] have a different house. Probably, like, 10 less bathrooms and [fewer] statues of me.”
Sandler’s heartfelt declaration highlighted the strength of his bond with Jackie Sandler, whom he married in June 2003. The couple, who share two daughters — Sadie (born 2006) and Sunny (born 2008) — are known in Hollywood for their enduring, low-key relationship. Jackie frequently appears in Adam’s films, further blending their personal and professional lives.
The Chairman’s Award recognized Sandler’s “deeply moving and career-best performance” in Jay Kelly, directed by Noah Baumbach and co-starring George Clooney. Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi praised Sandler as “one of the most versatile and respected actors of his generation.”
Sandler’s speech, presented by his Jay Kelly co-star Laura Dern, was one of the evening’s highlights, blending laughs with genuine emotion. He closed by thanking his wife, calling her “my forever girl,” and expressing gratitude for his long career.
In an industry often marked by fleeting romances, Sandler’s words served as a sweet reminder that some connections are truly meant to be — success or not. The Palm Springs event also honored stars like Timothée Chalamet, Miley Cyrus, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Michael B. Jordan, kicking off the 2026 awards season in style.
