Akshaye Khanna’s Rehman Dakait Set to Return in ‘Dhurandhar 2’ on Overwhelming Popular Demand

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2025 blockbuster Dhurandhar is generating massive buzz, particularly around the return of Akshaye Khanna’s unforgettable character, Rehman Dakait. Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2025, a gripping spy action thriller starring Ranveer Singh as an undercover RAW agent infiltrating Karachi’s dangerous underworld.

In the first film, released on December 5, 2025, Ranveer Singh portrayed Hamza Ali Mazari (alias Jaskirat Singh Rangi), who embeds himself in the Baloch gang led by the ruthless gangster Rehman Dakait, a role brought to life by Akshaye Khanna. Inspired by the real-life Karachi underworld figure, Rehman Dakait became the breakout highlight of the movie. Khanna’s portrayal—marked by intense swag, powerful dialogue delivery, and especially the viral dance sequence in the song “FA9LA” during a high-stakes weapons scene—captivated audiences and went mega-viral on social media. Critics and fans alike praised his performance as one of the film’s strongest elements, often stealing the spotlight from the ensemble cast that included Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal.

Despite Rehman Dakait meeting his end in the climax of the original film, reports confirm that the character will make a comeback in Dhurandhar 2 due to the overwhelming fan demand and the immense popularity his role garnered.

The latest updates clarify that Akshaye Khanna will appear in key flashback sequences, utilizing footage already shot during the initial production schedules. There will be no fresh shoots or additional scenes filmed with the actor at this stage. Director Aditya Dhar is currently focused on post-production, including editing the trailer (slated for a late-February release), finalizing the background score, and polishing visuals and sound ahead of the theatrical launch.

Dhurandhar 2 is locked for release on March 19, 2026, coinciding with festivals like Eid, Gudi Padwa, and Ugadi. Unlike the Hindi-only first part, the sequel will have a pan-India rollout in multiple languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. It is set to clash at the box office with Yash’s Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, promising an epic showdown.

Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios, the sequel continues the high-stakes espionage saga following the events of the first film. Fans are thrilled at the prospect of revisiting Rehman Dakait’s menacing charisma through these flashbacks, which are expected to add depth to the narrative and honor the character’s legacy without altering the original ending.

With Dhurandhar still enjoying strong word-of-mouth and box-office momentum, the return of Akshaye Khanna’s iconic gangster is sure to heighten excitement for what promises to be another major cinematic event in 2026. The hype is building—Rehman Dakait may be gone, but his impact lives on!
