Ice Cube’s ‘War of the Worlds’ Crowned Worst Movie of the Year at 2026 Razzie Awards, as Kate Hudson Earns Redemption

The 46th Golden Raspberry Awards, popularly known as the Razzies, delivered their annual roast of Hollywood’s biggest cinematic misfires on March 14, 2026—just one day before the Oscars celebrated the industry’s finest. This year’s ceremony saw Ice Cube’s 2025 sci-fi remake War of the Worlds dominate the proceedings, sweeping five major categories and earning the infamous title of Worst Picture.

Directed by Rich Lee and released via Universal Pictures (with a screenlife/Zoom-style format that confined much of the action to Ice Cube’s character battling an alien invasion from his desk), the film was lambasted for its inept execution, hackneyed dialogue, heavy product placement, and near-total betrayal of H.G. Wells’ classic novel. Critics had already panned it upon release, with Rotten Tomatoes scores hovering near zero before settling at a dismal low single-digit percentage, turning it into an instant “cult hate-watch classic” for some viewers.

War of the Worlds claimed the following dishonors:

  • Worst Picture
  • Worst Actor — Ice Cube
  • Worst Director — Rich Lee
  • Worst Screenplay — Kenny Golde and Marc Hyman
  • Worst Remake, Rip-off or Sequel

The film tied for the most nominations (six) with Disney’s live-action Snow White, which picked up several other unwanted trophies, including Worst Supporting Actor for its controversial artificial dwarves.

While the Razzies gleefully highlighted the lows of 2025 cinema, they also offered a moment of positivity with the Razzie Redeemer Award. This special honor goes to a performer who has previously faced Razzie nominations or wins but has since rebounded with acclaimed work.

This year’s recipient was Kate Hudson. Hudson, who earned past Razzie nods (and even a Worst Actress win) for films like Music (2021), Mother’s Day (2016), and My Best Friend’s Girl (2008), has now been celebrated for her “pitch-perfect” performance in the animated or music-inspired film Song Sung Blue. Her work in the project has garnered serious praise, culminating in an Oscar nomination during the current awards season—marking a true turnaround from her earlier critical lows.

The contrast was stark: one film became synonymous with 2025’s biggest flops, while another star reclaimed her reputation amid the parody awards’ spotlight. As Hollywood turns its attention to the Oscars on March 15, the Razzies once again reminded everyone that even in Tinseltown, not every story ends in triumph.
