In a significant milestone for India’s electric vehicle (EV) market, the Mahindra XEV 9S has emerged as the country’s top-selling electric vehicle for February 2026. The all-new three-row electric SUV, built on Mahindra’s advanced INGLO platform, recorded impressive first-full-month sales of 3,539 units, comfortably outperforming established rivals including the MG Windsor EV and Tata Nexon EV.
According to the latest sales data, the XEV 9S topped the monthly EV chart ahead of the MG Windsor EV, which sold 2,599 units, and the Tata Nexon EV, which moved 2,410 units. The strong debut of Mahindra’s family-focused electric SUV highlights the growing demand for spacious, value-packed EVs tailored to Indian buyers’ needs.
Here is the top-five EV sales ranking for February 2026 (model-wise): Rank Model Units Sold 1 Mahindra XEV 9S 3,539 2 MG Windsor EV 2,599 3 Tata Nexon EV 2,410 4 Mahindra XEV 9e 1,889 5 Tata Harrier EV 1,738
Several factors contributed to the XEV 9S’s rapid rise to the top. As Mahindra’s first three-row family EV SUV, it perfectly addresses the Indian preference for spacious vehicles that can comfortably seat seven passengers while offering the low running costs of electric mobility. The model is priced competitively, starting at around ₹19.95 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base 59 kWh variant, with higher-range options delivering a claimed range of up to 679 km thanks to the larger 79 kWh battery pack. Buyers have also been drawn to its modern design, feature-rich cabin, and Mahindra’s expanding EV ecosystem, which includes the recently launched XEV 9e and BE 6 models.
While Tata Motors retained its position as the leading EV brand with total sales of 5,558 units in February, the single-model success of the XEV 9S underscores Mahindra’s aggressive push into the electric segment. Overall, India’s EV market continued its upward trajectory, crossing 20,000 units in February 2026 — marking a roughly 25 percent increase month-on-month.
The arrival of the XEV 9S signals a maturing Indian EV landscape where family-oriented, feature-loaded electric SUVs are gaining strong traction. With more affordable and practical options entering the market, the competition among manufacturers is set to intensify, promising exciting developments for Indian consumers in the coming months.
