MPUF Accuses DMHO Office Staff of Absenteeism in East Jaintia Hills

Khliehriat, May 20: The Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF) on Tuesday alleged gross negligence by staff at the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) office in East Jaintia Hills, claiming that several employees had not reported for duty even by 12 noon.

According to MPUF East Jaintia Hills District President Shri Kyrshan Blah, the team visited the DMHO office in Khliehriat along with members of the public who had come from distant villages to apply for birth certificates and other essential services. To their dismay, many staff members were still absent, causing significant inconvenience to citizens who had travelled long distances.

Blah strongly condemned the absenteeism, stating that government employees, who are paid from public funds, have a primary duty to serve the people. “This lack of seriousness towards public service is unacceptable,” he said. He directly raised the matter with the DMHO, who assured that necessary instructions would be issued to ensure staff report on time.

The MPUF warned that if such irregularities continue, the organisation will be compelled to take stronger action to ensure accountability in public offices.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding punctuality and service delivery in government establishments in the region. Citizens have often complained about delayed office functioning affecting essential services like certificate issuance, health-related documentation, and other administrative work.

The development comes amid growing demands for better governance and stricter enforcement of office attendance rules in Meghalaya’s district headquarters.
