Man City finally sign ‘the next Lionel Messi’! Highly-rated Claudio Echeverri joins in £12.5m deal from River Plate but teenage forward will spend rest of 2024 with Argentine giants

Manchester City has completed the signing of the young Argentine midfielder Claudio Echeverri from River Plate. The deal is valued at around £12.5 million, with additional potential add-ons. Echeverri, who just turned 18 on January 2, has already made six appearances for River Plate, a team managed by former City defender Martin Demichelis.

Echeverri is set to stay on loan at River Plate until January 2025 before joining Manchester City. During his time at River Plate, he has made notable contributions, including playing in five Copa Libertadores games and providing an assist. He also captained Argentina in the Under-17 World Cup, scoring a hat-trick in the quarter-final against Brazil, although Argentina was eventually defeated by Germany in the semi-finals. Furthermore, Echeverri has trained with the senior Argentina football team and has made 23 appearances for the Argentina U-17 side, scoring 13 times.

Manchester City and its fans are likely excited about this new addition, especially considering Echeverri’s promising track record and the potential he has shown at such a young age [❞] [❞].
