Priscilla Presley Opens Up About the Heartbreaking Death of Her Daughter, Lisa Marie

The Presley family has long stood as one of America’s most iconic dynasties, rooted in the legacy of Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll. But with that fame has also come deep tragedy. In a recent emotional interview with Piers Morgan, Priscilla Presley shared her grief, recalling the devastating loss of her only daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, who died in January 2023 at the age of 54.

A Loss Too Heavy to Bear

Priscilla did not hold back when describing her emotions. She admitted that the death of her daughter was “unbearable”, saying it felt as if a massive part of her life had been ripped away. “It’s still shocking that we don’t have her,” she confessed. Despite the months that have passed since Lisa Marie’s death, the pain remains raw and permanent, a wound that refuses to heal.

This was not the first loss Priscilla had faced in recent years. She also spoke about the compounded grief of losing her own mother and Lisa Marie’s son, Benjamin Keough, who died by suicide in 2020. Each tragedy has weighed heavily on her, but the loss of her daughter, she said, was a pain beyond measure.

The Final Moments With Lisa Marie

In the interview, Priscilla recalled her last night with Lisa Marie — a bittersweet memory that has since haunted her. Just two days before her daughter’s sudden passing, they attended the Golden Globe Awards together on January 7, 2023. Lisa Marie was there to support actor Austin Butler, who had just won for his portrayal of Elvis in Baz Luhrmann’s acclaimed biopic.

Although Lisa Marie smiled for cameras and celebrated with fans, Priscilla noticed something was off. She remembered her daughter appearing “frail” and unwell that evening. After the ceremony, the two went to the famous Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles for drinks. It was there that Lisa Marie told her mother, “Mom, I have to go, my stomach really hurts.”

Priscilla hugged her daughter tightly before she left — not knowing it would be the last hug she would ever give her. Days later, Lisa Marie suffered cardiac arrest and passed away, leaving behind her three daughters and a family devastated by grief.

Remembering Lisa Marie Presley

Lisa Marie was not only the only child of Elvis and Priscilla but also a singer-songwriter in her own right. Throughout her career, she released several albums and carried on the Presley name with pride, while often speaking candidly about the burden of living under the shadow of Elvis’s legend.

Her life was also marked by turbulence — struggles with loss, marriages that kept her in the public eye (including her marriage to Michael Jackson), and ongoing battles with personal demons. Yet to Priscilla, Lisa Marie was simply her daughter — a fiercely loving mother, a sensitive soul, and someone who carried both the brilliance and weight of her lineage.

A Mother’s Grief

Priscilla Presley’s words to Piers Morgan were not just about loss but also about memory, love, and resilience. She acknowledged that grief is not something one ever truly overcomes. Instead, it becomes a constant companion, a reminder of what was lost and of the fleeting fragility of life.

The Presley family remains united in keeping Lisa Marie’s memory alive, particularly for her daughters, including actress Riley Keough, who has since stepped into the role of custodian of Graceland and the family legacy.

For Priscilla, sharing her story is both a way of honoring Lisa Marie and of processing the deep personal pain of a mother outliving her child. “When you lose your child, it’s like your life has changed forever,” she said. And yet, through her tears, she continues to carry Lisa Marie’s spirit forward — a tribute to the daughter she loved so deeply and lost far too soon.
