From Bankruptcy to Success: How a Street Food Stall Turned Into a ₹25 Lakh-a-Day Empire

When Chinese entrepreneur Tang Jian lost everything — his restaurants, his fortune, and his reputation — few could have imagined that he would one day earn over ₹25 lakh daily selling sausages. His journey from bankruptcy to booming success is not just a business story, but a lesson in humility, resilience, and reinvention.

The Rise and Fall

Before his downfall, Tang Jian owned three thriving restaurants, earning nearly 3 million yuan (₹3.5 crore) per month. Success, however, led him to overextend. Tang began investing in businesses he didn’t fully understand — a move that soon spiraled out of control. Within a few years, he found himself 46 million yuan (₹57 crore) in debt and bankrupt.

“I invested in the wrong people and the wrong industries,” he later admitted. His financial empire crumbled, leaving him without assets and facing years of debt repayments.

A Humble Restart

Instead of hiding from failure, Tang decided to start again — from the streets. In 2018, he began selling homemade sausages from a small roadside stall, with help from his mother. His initial investment was minuscule: a 35-yuan sausage stuffer and some good-quality pork.

He made the sausages by hand, using traditional techniques, and emphasized transparency and honesty. To prove the quality of his products, Tang displayed purchase receipts for his pork at his stall — a simple gesture that built instant trust with customers.

Within months, his reputation for flavor and integrity spread. The crowds grew, and so did his confidence.

Building a Sausage Empire

From that humble beginning, Tang Jian slowly scaled up. He rented a small workspace to increase production. Then, as orders kept coming, he set up a factory capable of producing 2 tons of sausages per day.

Today, Tang’s business generates around 200,000 yuan daily (₹25 lakh) in revenue. He has expanded into shopping centers, selling ready-to-eat sausage snacks under his own brand, and has established a distribution network across multiple cities in China.

Turning Crisis Into Opportunity

When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted in-person sales, Tang refused to give up. He turned to live-streaming platforms — an increasingly popular trend in China — to showcase his sausage-making process and interact directly with customers.

The approach worked spectacularly. His genuine personality and hands-on cooking demonstrations attracted over 1.2 million followers online. During some live sessions, Tang sold products worth 1 million yuan (₹1.25 crore) in just a few hours.

His blend of authenticity and innovation turned him into a household name, making him not just a street vendor but a digital entrepreneur.

Managing Debt and Looking Ahead

Despite his booming sales, Tang hasn’t forgotten his debts. He continues to reinvest profits into business expansion while systematically repaying what he owes. According to reports, he has even developed an AI-based repayment forecast, projecting that he’ll be debt-free by 2027.

Tang remains grounded, emphasizing that money is secondary to purpose. “A fall into the pit, a gain in my wit,” he says, summarizing his life philosophy. “The thing you keep putting effort into will repay you one day.”

Lessons from Tang Jian’s Journey

Tang’s story carries universal lessons for entrepreneurs, dreamers, and anyone who has ever faced failure:

  1. Start Small, Think Big – A single food stall became a multimillion-rupee business because Tang focused on quality and consistency before scaling.
  2. Be Transparent – In an era of consumer skepticism, honesty became his best marketing tool.
  3. Adapt to Change – When COVID-19 closed his stalls, he turned to live streaming — showing the power of agility.
  4. Invest in What You Know – His downfall came from blind investment; his success from mastering one simple product.
  5. Resilience is Everything – Tang’s comeback proves that failure is not the opposite of success — it’s part of it.

From Street Stall to Symbol of Hope

Tang Jian’s rise from financial ruin to food-stall millionaire has captivated millions. Beyond his earnings, his journey symbolizes the power of persistence and integrity in a world obsessed with shortcuts.

In every sausage he sells lies a reminder: failure doesn’t define you — your response to it does.
