The U.S. Army has successfully tested a fully autonomous Black Hawk helicopter controlled through a simple tablet interface. A National Guard sergeant first class with no piloting background managed the aircraft using Lockheed Martin’s MATRIX system, which flew a 70 nautical mile route on its own. During the test, the helicopter carried out complex tasks such as cargo delivery, precision drops, and a simulated medical evacuation. The soldier learned the system in under an hour, showing how autonomous flight could make missions safer and allow non pilots to supervise advanced operations.
