The Renault Duster has made a powerful comeback in India with the unveiling of its third-generation model on January 26, 2026—Republic Day—reviving one of the country’s most beloved compact SUVs after a four-year hiatus since its discontinuation in 2022.
Originally launched in 2012, the Duster played a pivotal role in popularizing the mid-size SUV segment in India with its rugged design, capable performance, and value-for-money appeal. Over time, however, it struggled against newer, more feature-rich competitors, leading to its phase-out. The design retains the Duster’s muscular, no-nonsense stance while adopting contemporary elements: boxy rectangular LED headlights with Y-shaped LED daytime running lights, full LED lighting, connected tail lamps, a prominent “Duster” badge on the grille (instead of the Renault logo), 18-inch alloys, functional roof rails (rated for 50 kg), and a high ground clearance for off-road prowess. India-specific tweaks ensure it suits local preferences and terrains, with some sources hinting at 4×4 Terrain Control with multiple drive modes and hill-descent control in select variants.
Powertrains: Turbo Petrol and Strong Hybrid Focus
Renault has ditched diesel entirely, focusing on efficient petrol options with electrification:
- Turbo TCe 100 (around 1.0L, entry-level performance).
- Turbo TCe 160 (1.3L, producing approximately 163 PS and 280 Nm, paired with manual or 6-speed DCT automatic).
- E-Tech 160 strong hybrid (1.8L GDI petrol engine + two electric motors + 1.4 kWh battery, mated to an 8-speed dedicated hybrid transmission). This setup enables significant EV-mode driving (up to 80% in city conditions), excellent fuel efficiency, and a potential combined range exceeding 1000 km.
Deliveries for turbo variants are slated to begin in mid-March or April 2026, while hybrid models will arrive around Diwali 2026.

The interior steps up considerably with a seamless dashboard layout featuring a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, integrated Google Assistant, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, and Arkamys 3D audio. Comfort highlights include an electric tailgate, 6-way powered driver seat, front ventilated seats, and generous space.
Safety receives a major boost as Renault’s first India model with a comprehensive ADAS suite (including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and more), alongside a 360-degree camera, multiple airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and other essentials.
Practicality remains a strong suit, with boot space claimed at up to 700 liters (significantly more than rivals) and thoughtful touches like physical climate controls for ease of use.
Ownership Confidence and Market Positioning
To build buyer trust, Renault introduces the “Renault Forever” program, offering an extended warranty of up to 7 years or 150,000 km.
Pre-bookings (branded as “R-Pass”) are open with a token amount of ₹21,000, granting priority delivery, special introductory pricing, and exclusive “Gang of Duster” merchandise for the enthusiast community.
Official pricing will be announced in mid-March 2026, with industry expectations placing base variants around ₹10-12 lakh ex-showroom, mid-specs at ₹12-16 lakh, and top/hybrid trims up to ₹18-20 lakh—aiming for aggressive positioning.
The revived Duster will compete fiercely in the crowded mid-size SUV segment against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara/Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and the new Tata Sierra.
