Nike’s $1 Billion Headquarters: An Exclusive Tour of the Philip H. Knight Campus

Nike’s World Headquarters, known as the Philip H. Knight Campus, stands as one of the most impressive corporate campuses in the world. Located in Beaverton, Oregon, just outside Portland, the sprawling 400-acre site features more than 75 buildings, many named after legendary athletes such as Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, LeBron James, Bo Jackson, and Steve Prefontaine. The campus serves as the heart of Nike’s innovation, design, and athletic culture, housing over 11,000 employees.

The “$1 billion” designation primarily refers to a major expansion project announced around 2016–2017. This ambitious development added approximately 3.2 million square feet of office space, mixed-use areas, and parking facilities. The expansion modernized the headquarters with state-of-the-art design studios, research laboratories, and athlete-inspired environments, while emphasizing sustainability through green roofs, preserved woodlands, pedestrian pathways, sports fields, running trails, and a central man-made Lake Nike.

A rare and highly engaging look inside this usually restricted campus came through a popular 2025 YouTube video by creator Jesser, which has garnered millions of views. In the video, Jesser and a friend receive a guided tour from Nike staff, complete with fun athletic challenges and push-up penalties for losing friendly competitions. The tour offers a playful yet insightful glimpse into Nike’s creative and performance-driven world.

The visit begins at Prefontaine Hall, which honors Nike’s origins. Founded in 1972 by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman, the space highlights early innovations, including the famous story of shoes crafted using a waffle iron. From there, the tour moves into more futuristic areas.

One of the standout stops is the LeBron James Innovation Center, a forward-thinking hub dedicated to concepts that are five to ten years ahead of production. The building features unique LeBron-themed details, such as door handles scaled to his height, a floor embedded with a shot chart of his first 30,000 career points, a signed backboard, and a gold hoop. Visitors can explore rare “Buried Treasure” shoes, a secret collection, and a mural celebrating LeBron’s bond with his mother. A cafe named Glow’s pays tribute to her as well.

The Coach K Fitness Center provides employees with a premium gym experience, including meditation areas, recovery stations, lounges, and a glossy basketball court used for friendly challenges. Outdoor facilities include the Bo Jackson Field, featuring multi-use turf made from recycled Swoosh material, and the Ronaldo Field for soccer. These areas hosted playful competitions during the tour, such as attempts to hit the crossbar followed by push-up penalties.

The Nike Sports Center offers even more athletic amenities, including a rock climbing wall, a pool slightly shorter than Olympic size, a putting green, sand volleyball courts, outdoor basketball courts, and spaces for heavy tire workouts. These facilities blur the line between workplace and training ground, reflecting Nike’s deep connection to sports.

The Serena Williams Building, the largest on campus at over one million square feet and certified LEED Platinum, houses design studios and a merchandising center. It showcases Serena’s career artifacts, including uniforms and trophies, and features a diverse food hall, tennis challenges against professionals, and a scenic overlook with views of the lake. A Japanese garden provides a serene space for meetings and reflection.

The Michael Jordan Building stands as a shrine to one of Nike’s most iconic partnerships. It displays legendary shoes, including the original “banned” black Jordan 1s, the Shattered Backboard pair, and an extensive Air Jordan 1 gallery. The space also includes education programs like “Beyond Basketball” and the Wings Cafe. The tour concluded with a special surprise: a pair of Air Jordan 40 shoes gifted to the visitors.

Additional highlights include the Michael Johnson Track, where sprint challenges take place alongside displays of gold record-setting shoes. Throughout the campus, golf carts help navigate the vast grounds, and hidden architectural details and athlete memorabilia create an immersive environment that embodies Nike’s “Just Do It” philosophy.

The headquarters seamlessly blends modern architecture with the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, incorporating sports fields, lakes, trails, and sustainable design elements. While public access to the interior remains very limited, as it is a working corporate campus, Nike occasionally offers private tours, contests, or employee store visits. Exterior views and drone footage provide a sense of the campus’s impressive scale for those unable to enter.

Nike’s Philip H. Knight Campus is widely regarded as one of the coolest corporate headquarters globally — part innovation laboratory, part athletic paradise. It perfectly captures the brand’s commitment to pushing boundaries in sport, design, and performance. For anyone interested in sneakers, corporate culture, or athletic innovation, the campus represents the ultimate expression of Nike’s enduring legacy.
