Ajax Make Initial Enquiry for Arne Slot as Liverpool Manager Remains Committed to Anfield

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been the subject of fresh speculation after Dutch club Ajax reportedly made an initial approach for the Reds boss.

According to respected Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, speaking on the Kick Off podcast, Ajax have made contact to gauge Slot’s interest in returning to the Netherlands as their new long-term head coach. The enquiry comes as Ajax continue their search for a permanent replacement following recent managerial changes.

However, the approach is understood to be preliminary at best. Sources close to the situation indicate that Slot is not interested in leaving Liverpool at this stage of his career. The 46-year-old Dutchman remains fully committed to his role at Anfield, where he is contracted until June 2027.

Jordi Cruyff, Ajax’s technical director, is believed to have identified Slot — who previously enjoyed success with Feyenoord — as one of the leading Dutch coaching candidates. Despite the interest, Ajax are now expected to turn their attention to alternative targets, including possible options such as Jeremie Frimpong and Pascal Jansen.

Liverpool’s Challenging Season and Summer Ahead

The story emerges during what has been a difficult 2025/26 campaign for Liverpool. After winning the Premier League in Slot’s debut season, the Reds have endured a frustrating follow-up year marked by inconsistent results, including a recent 3-2 defeat to Manchester United. Fan frustration has grown, but the club’s hierarchy continues to back Slot heading into a pivotal third season.

Significant changes are already planned for the summer window. Star forward Mohamed Salah and veteran left-back Andy Robertson are both set to depart when their contracts expire, forcing Slot to oversee a major rebuild in attack and defence.

Despite earlier rumours about his future, most reports suggest Slot will be given time to turn things around, with Liverpool still targeting Champions League qualification this season.

Clickbait Headlines vs Reality

Media outlets, particularly fan channels like LFC News, have framed the Ajax interest with dramatic headlines such as “HUGE APPROACH Made For Arne Slot As SHOCK Liverpool Summer Exit Looms!” While the story has generated clicks, the reality appears far more straightforward: a polite enquiry that was quickly rebuffed.

Slot’s focus remains on guiding Liverpool through the remainder of the current campaign and preparing for what promises to be an important summer of squad evolution. For now, the Dutchman is staying put at Anfield.
