Meghalaya Government Approves Regularization of 98 Adhoc Employees
Shillong, May 6, 2026: In a significant decision aimed at providing job security to long-serving contractual staff, the Meghalaya State Cabinet has cleared the regularization of 98 adhoc employees.
The approval was granted during a Cabinet meeting held on May 5, 2026. These employees were appointed before the December 31, 2007 cutoff date, making them eligible under the government’s regularization policy for pre-2008 appointees.
This marks the third round of regularization carried out by the MDA-2 government. The employees belong to various departments, with the largest group — around 55 — coming from the Health Department. Other departments are also represented in the list.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Cabinet Minister and government spokesperson Wailadmiki Shylla said the move would bring much-needed stability to the employees by granting them permanent status, along with associated benefits such as pension eligibility and other service perks.
Importantly, the government has clarified that the regularization will not impose any additional financial burden on the state exchequer, as the positions were already sanctioned and the employees have been drawing salaries from existing provisions.
The decision is being welcomed by many as a step towards fulfilling long-pending demands of adhoc workers who have served the state for decades without job security. It reflects the government’s continued commitment to addressing the concerns of contractual employees who meet the stipulated criteria.
Further details regarding the department-wise breakup and official notifications are expected to be released shortly by the concerned departments.
This latest regularization is part of a broader effort by the Meghalaya government to streamline its workforce and ensure fairness for employees who have contributed significantly over the years.
