New Delhi, May 8, 2026 — Apple announced on Wednesday a significant investment of Rs 100 crore in India’s renewable energy infrastructure, marking another step in its commitment to sustainability and expanding its footprint in the country.
The tech giant is partnering with CleanMax, one of India’s leading renewable energy developers, to fund the development of more than 150 MW of new renewable energy capacity, primarily from wind and solar sources. This initial investment is expected to generate sufficient clean energy to power an average of 150,000 Indian households annually, with scope for further expansion in the future.
The move is part of Apple’s broader strategy to decarbonize its supply chain in India and support its global target of achieving carbon neutrality across its entire operations by 2030. The company has already been collaborating with CleanMax on rooftop solar projects that currently power its offices and retail stores in India with 100% renewable energy.
“This investment will help scale renewable energy adoption across our supply chain and advance decarbonization efforts in India’s commercial and industrial sector,” an Apple spokesperson said in the official announcement.
Environmental and Economic Impact
Apple’s latest initiative comes amid India’s aggressive push towards renewable energy to meet its climate goals. By channeling funds into large-scale wind and solar projects, the company aims to reduce its carbon footprint while contributing to the national grid’s green capacity.
The investment aligns with Apple’s Environmental Progress Report for 2026, which highlights that the company has already reduced its global greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60% since 2015, even as its revenue grew by 78% during the same period.
In addition to the renewable energy project, Apple is supporting other environmental initiatives in India. These include partnerships with WWF-India for plastic waste recovery and recycling programs, now expanding from Goa to cities like Coimbatore. The company is also backing six early-stage green startups through Acumen, focusing on areas such as waste management, circular economy, regenerative agriculture, and clean livelihoods.
Growing Presence in India
Apple has significantly ramped up its manufacturing and operational presence in India over the past few years. This renewable energy investment not only strengthens its sustainability credentials but also reinforces its long-term commitment to the Indian market and its supply chain partners.
The announcement has been welcomed by industry observers as a positive signal for foreign investment in India’s green energy sector, which continues to attract global players seeking both growth opportunities and environmental impact.
This partnership with CleanMax is expected to pave the way for additional collaborative projects in the coming years, further integrating Apple into India’s renewable energy ecosystem.
