Shillong, May 10, 2026: Raymond Kharjana has been elected unopposed as the new President of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) for the 2026–2029 term. The announcement marks a significant leadership transition in one of Meghalaya’s most influential student organisations.

The KSU Election Committee made the official declaration on April 16, 2026, after scrutiny of nominations at the union’s headquarters in Shillong. Three key positions in the Central Executive Council (CEC) were filled without contest.

New Central Executive Council Leadership

  • President: Raymond Kharjana
  • Vice President: Pynkmenlang Sanmiet
  • General Secretary: Reuben Anderson Najiar

Kharjana, a graduate in Computer Applications, previously served as Chairman of the KSU Education Cell. His unopposed election reflects strong consensus within the organisation.

Polling for the remaining posts of the Central Executive Council was held on May 9, 2026. The entire process was conducted smoothly under the supervision of the Election Committee, led by members including Danny Khyriem and Samuel B. Jyrwa.

This new team succeeds the outgoing leadership of President Lambostarwell Marngar and General Secretary Donald V Thabah. The transition is expected to bring fresh momentum to the union’s long-standing advocacy for Khasi community interests, quality education, protection of indigenous rights, and youth empowerment in Meghalaya.

The Khasi Students’ Union, established as one of the oldest and most respected student bodies in the state, continues to play a pivotal role in addressing issues concerning the Khasi hills and the broader indigenous communities of Northeast India. The smooth and uncontested nature of the top leadership elections has been welcomed by members and observers alike, with no major controversies reported.

The development has received wide coverage in local media outlets across Meghalaya and has been actively discussed on social media platforms in both English and Khasi languages.
