Flo Mobility: Autonomous Robots Transforming India’s Construction Industry

India’s construction sector, one of the largest in the world, has long grappled with challenges like labor shortages, safety risks, low productivity, and inefficient material handling on chaotic job sites. A Bengaluru-based startup is now addressing these pain points head-on with practical, rugged autonomous robots designed specifically for Indian conditions.

Flo Mobility, founded in 2019/2021 by Manesh Jain and Pratik Patel, has developed a range of autonomous material-hauling robots under its Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) model. Instead of requiring heavy upfront investment or major site modifications, contractors can subscribe to the robots, which handle repetitive, strenuous tasks like transporting cement, sand, bricks, and other heavy materials.

Advanced Technology Built for Tough Environments

The flagship Flo Hauler and similar models stand out for their robust engineering. Each robot can carry payloads ranging from 500 kg to 1.5 tonnes, available in dump or flatbed configurations. They navigate unstructured, uneven, muddy, and sloped construction sites using a sophisticated suite of sensors: 32-beam LiDAR for 200-meter 360-degree coverage, cameras with vision AI, edge computing for sub-100ms reaction times, RTK-GPS, and a custom hybrid steering system paired with 4WD electric motors and lugged wheels.

Designed for round-the-clock operation in harsh Indian weather and dust, the robots feature IP65-rated protection and deliver 99.9% uptime. A centralized fleet management dashboard allows supervisors to monitor multiple units efficiently.

Proven Impact on Construction Projects

As of mid-2025/2026, Flo Mobility has deployed over 50–60 robots across more than 30 projects in 10+ Indian states, with early expansion into the Middle East. Major clients include L&T, Godrej Properties, Sobha, Embassy Group, Total Environment, and KEC International.

The results have been impressive:

  • Over 250,000 tonnes of material moved
  • More than 50,000 km traveled collectively by the fleet
  • Up to 50% reduction in material handling costs
  • 45% faster project timelines
  • Six times higher productivity in material movement
  • More than 30% reduction in on-site accidents

By taking over dangerous and monotonous hauling work, the robots allow human workers to focus on skilled tasks, helping alleviate India’s acute labor shortages in construction.

Sustainable Business Model Driving Growth

Flo Mobility’s RaaS approach—providing robots, maintenance, software updates, and full operational support on a subscription basis—lowers barriers to adoption for contractors of all sizes. This model has fueled rapid scaling. The company recently raised $2.5 million in a pre-Series A funding round, co-led by Mela Ventures and Arali Ventures, with participation from LetsVenture, Blume, and others. The fresh capital will support manufacturing expansion, AI enhancements, and international growth, including planned entry into the United States within the next 18 months.

Looking ahead, Flo is leveraging its vast operational data and AI capabilities to develop additional automation solutions, such as wall-finishing and painting robots.

A Bright Future for Construction Robotics in India

India’s construction industry is poised for massive growth amid the country’s infrastructure boom, but traditional methods struggle to keep pace. Flo Mobility exemplifies “Made in India” deep tech that delivers immediate ROI by solving real-world problems rather than chasing hype.

As labor costs rise and safety standards tighten, autonomous material handling is set to become mainstream. Flo’s success signals a broader shift toward automation in one of India’s most vital yet least digitized sectors—promising safer, faster, and more efficient construction projects nationwide.

With strong execution and a clear focus on practical innovation, Flo Mobility is not just introducing robots to construction sites; it is helping reshape the future of building in India.
