Vodafone Idea (Vi) Accelerates 4G and 5G Expansion Across Priority Circles

New Delhi, May 2026 – Vodafone Idea (Vi) has significantly ramped up its network expansion efforts, focusing on both 4G enhancements and 5G rollout in its 17 priority circles. These circles account for nearly 99% of the company’s revenue, marking a key phase in Vi’s turnaround strategy.

Strong Progress in 5G Rollout

Vi has successfully launched 5G services in over 80 cities across all priority circles. The company continues to expand coverage rapidly, with plans to add more cities in the coming months. This follows the initial rollout that began in Mumbai in March 2025 and has since reached major metros including Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Expansion is now extending into important Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities such as Varanasi, Prayagraj, Ludhiana, Coimbatore, and Goa.

Customers with compatible devices and eligible prepaid or postpaid plans can enjoy unlimited 5G data in covered areas. Vi encourages users to check real-time coverage through the official Vi app or the website myvi.in/5g-network.

4G Network Strengthening

Alongside 5G, Vi has made notable improvements to its 4G infrastructure. The company added thousands of new towers, resulting in an increase of 48.2 million people covered by 4G services. Data capacity has grown by more than 12% year-on-year, leading to better network performance and user experience in priority areas.

Focus on Priority Circles

Vi is directing the majority of its capital expenditure toward 17 priority circles where it holds 5G spectrum in the mid-band 3300 MHz range. These key markets include:

  • Mumbai
  • Delhi
  • Gujarat
  • Maharashtra
  • Tamil Nadu
  • Kerala
  • Karnataka
  • Uttar Pradesh (East & West)
  • Punjab
  • Haryana
  • Rajasthan
  • Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh
  • Andhra Pradesh
  • West Bengal & Kolkata

Non-priority circles continue to receive limited upgrades as the company prioritizes high-revenue regions.

Positive Business Outcomes

The network expansion is already showing encouraging results. Vi has reported a turnaround in subscriber additions, turning positive from February 2026. Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) has also risen to Rs 190 in Q4 FY26, up from Rs 175 in the previous year. These improvements reflect better subscriber retention and growing confidence in Vi’s network quality.

This accelerated push forms a critical part of Vi’s broader revival plan, supported by spectrum acquisitions and ongoing financial restructuring. Industry observers note gradual improvements in voice quality and data speeds in several circles, as per TRAI metrics.

As Vi continues its aggressive rollout through FY26, customers in priority circles can expect wider 5G availability and stronger overall network performance in the months ahead. Users in areas like Guwahati or other circles are advised to verify local coverage directly via the Vi app for the most accurate information.
