Baywatch Reboot: Will The OG Lifeguards Make a Splash?

Fox has officially greenlit a Baywatch reboot for the 2026-27 television season, ordering 12 episodes of the iconic lifeguard drama. The new series aims to blend nostalgia from the original 1990s hit with a fresh, next-generation storyline set against the sunny beaches of Southern California.

A New Generation Takes Over

The reboot is positioned as a continuation rather than a complete remake. At the center is Stephen Amell (Arrow), who steps into the role of an adult Hobie Buchannon — the son of the legendary Mitch Buchannon, originally played by David Hasselhoff. Hobie now serves as captain of the Baywatch team. Joining him is his newly discovered daughter, played by Jessica Belkin, who becomes the latest addition to the lifeguard squad.

The cast also features a mix of rising stars and social media influencers, including Noah Beck, Livvy Dunne, Brooks Nader, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, and Thaddeus LaGrone. Production is currently underway, with scenes being filmed at iconic locations like Venice Beach.

Original Lifeguards Return

While the show focuses on new faces, a couple of original Baywatch stars are making a splash by reprising their roles. David Chokachi, who played Cody Madison during seasons 6 through 9, is returning to the franchise. Erika Eleniak, known for her portrayal of Shauni McClain in the early seasons, is also set to appear.

These returning actors provide meaningful links to the classic series, especially Chokachi sharing scenes alongside Amell’s Hobie.

What About the Biggest Stars?

As for the show’s most iconic figures, updates are more uncertain. David Hasselhoff (Mitch Buchannon) and Pamela Anderson (C.J. Parker) have not been confirmed for any roles, whether main cast or significant cameos. Stephen Amell has expressed openness to the idea of cameos and excitement about potential appearances, but nothing has been locked in yet.

Pamela Anderson has previously voiced hesitation about participating in remakes or reboots, which may influence her involvement.

What to Expect

The upcoming Baywatch reboot promises the classic ingredients that made the original a global phenomenon: dramatic beach rescues, interpersonal relationships, sunny California vibes, and of course, the signature red swimsuits. By combining legacy elements with contemporary casting and production values, the series hopes to capture both longtime fans and a new audience.

The show is expected to premiere in early 2027. Whether it becomes a full nostalgic reunion or a bold fresh take remains to be seen, but with some original lifeguards already confirmed, the reboot is poised to make waves.
