Delhi High Court Rejects Urgent Plea Against Cockroach Janata Party’s Protest at Jantar Mantar

The Delhi High Court on Friday, June 5, 2026, declined to grant an urgent hearing to a petition seeking preventive measures and crowd control restrictions ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)’s planned protest in the national capital.

The demonstration, scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at Jantar Mantar, has drawn significant attention as the viral youth movement’s first major on-ground mobilisation.

Court’s Stance on the PIL

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the NGO ‘Save India Foundation’ raised concerns over potential law and order issues, public inconvenience, and the need for regulatory directions to Delhi Police and other authorities.

The plea was mentioned before a vacation bench comprising Justices Saurabh Banerjee and Amit Sharma. The bench refused urgent listing, noting that police authorities are equipped to handle the situation and address the apprehensions raised.

Why CJP is Protesting

The Cockroach Janata Party, a youth-driven satirical movement that exploded online in mid-May 2026, is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The call stems from widespread anger over multiple examination scandals, including:

  • Alleged NEET-UG paper leaks
  • Irregularities in CBSE evaluations
  • CUET-related controversies affecting lakhs of students

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke is set to arrive in Delhi and participate in the protest, which organisers describe as peaceful and open to participants from all backgrounds without party flags or banners.

Background of the Movement

CJP originated as a sharp online response to a Supreme Court judge’s remarks comparing unemployed youth to “cockroaches.” What began as satire quickly transformed into a broader platform voicing Gen Z frustrations over education, unemployment, and governance.

The group has rapidly built a massive social media following and is now testing its ability to translate digital momentum into real-world action.

Security and Preparations

With the protest just hours away, Delhi Police have made heavy security arrangements around Jantar Mantar and key routes. CJP spokespersons have repeatedly emphasised a commitment to peaceful protest and urged supporters to ignore rumours and maintain discipline.

The High Court’s decision leaves the onus of crowd management squarely on the police, even as the movement prepares for what could be a significant show of youth discontent.

This episode highlights the growing clout of digital-native movements in Indian politics and the mounting pressure on the education system amid repeated controversies. As events unfold on June 6, all eyes remain on Jantar Mantar and the response from authorities.
