Starting with just one cow as a young homemaker, she has built a successful dairy business that now includes over 300 animals, produces around 1,000 liters of milk daily, and generates approximately ₹15 lakh per month—all while continuing to live in her village in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district.
Humble Beginnings
Daryaben’s story began at the age of 18, soon after her marriage. Like many rural women, she took on the responsibility of caring for family animals, milking them, and selling the milk locally to support her household. What started as a routine domestic task gradually revealed her entrepreneurial spirit. She focused on expanding slowly—adding more animals, improving breeding practices, and enhancing feed and care routines.
Her consistent efforts and willingness to learn turned a small backyard operation into a professional dairy farm.
Scaling Up to a Large Operation
Today, Daryaben manages a herd of approximately 200 buffaloes and 100 cows, totaling around 300 animals. Running an operation of this scale requires significant management. She employs 14 workers who handle daily tasks such as feeding, milking, healthcare, and farm maintenance. Her disciplined routine begins as early as 3:30 a.m. to ensure smooth operations.
Strong Earnings Through Cooperative Support
Daryaben is associated with Banas Dairy, one of India’s major dairy cooperatives. She supplies about 1,000 liters of milk every day, which brings in a gross monthly income of around ₹20 lakh. Her annual earnings have reached an impressive ₹1.85 crore.
The cooperative model has been crucial to her success, providing reliable market access, timely payments, technical guidance, and other resources that help farmers scale efficiently. This integration has allowed her to maintain high productivity and hygiene standards.
Empowering Women in Rural Economies
Daryaben’s achievement reflects a broader success story in Banaskantha and Gujarat. Out of roughly 472,000 milk producers linked to Banas Dairy, around 168,000 are women. The dairy sector has emerged as a powerful avenue for women’s economic empowerment, enabling them to move from supplementary income to full business ownership and job creation.
She is recognized among the top women dairy entrepreneurs by the cooperative, proving that with determination, smart practices, and institutional support, rural women can achieve significant financial independence.
