The company engineered the entire system, including barrel, choke, and proprietary ammunition, rather than modifying existing platforms.

The T-12 is chambered in the widely available 12-gauge calibre, making logistics straightforward. It features a gas-driven semi-automatic action with a five-round detachable magazine, enabling sustained fire without frequent reloading. Weighing approximately 3.8 kg, the weapon is portable enough for infantry soldiers while remaining stable during rapid engagements.
A standout feature is its 20-inch nitride-treated barrel equipped with a multi-choke system. This allows operators to adjust pellet dispersion patterns based on the mission—tighter spreads for longer ranges or wider patterns for close-quarters. The shotgun includes a Picatinny rail for mounting optics, tactical lights, laser aiming devices, or other accessories, enhancing versatility across roles.
While the conventional effective range is around 50 metres, specialised counter-UAS ammunition extends engagement capability to nearly 80-100 metres. SSS Defence developed proprietary hardened steel pellets housed in a custom wad designed to maintain energy and deliver an optimal cone of dispersion. Traditional lead shot lacks the penetration and pattern consistency needed against drone frames and electronics at distance. This indigenous ammunition ecosystem ensures reliability without dependence on imports.
Field evaluations have confirmed the T-12’s effectiveness in neutralising drone targets at approximately 90 metres, covering the critical engagement window for most FPV threats. The weapon’s design also supports a variety of ammunition types, from low-recoil training rounds to heavy breaching loads, making it suitable for diverse operations beyond anti-drone roles, including urban combat, room clearing, and law enforcement applications.
