Guwahati Missing Woman Bhabana Sarma Breaks Silence After 48 Hours

**Guwahati, April 29, 2026:** Bhabana Sarma, the 27-year-old woman from Guwahati who went missing on April 24 after sending a distressing WhatsApp message to her mother saying she was “in danger,” has finally spoken out. In a video statement released on social media, Sarma clarified the circumstances of her disappearance, revealing it stemmed from severe emotional and mental distress rather than any criminal act.

Sarma went missing on April 24, 2026, triggering widespread concern among her family, friends, and the public. Her phone was switched off shortly after the alarming message, prompting police searches and appeals on social media regarding women’s safety in the region.

According to police and her own account, Sarma was traced safe in Shillong, Meghalaya, on April 25. Investigations confirmed she had left home voluntarily. She travelled alone — taking a Rapido ride to Jalukbari, withdrawing cash from an ATM, proceeding to Paltan Bazar by bus, and then taking a cab to Shillong, where she checked into a hotel.

### Her Video Statement

In her video message on April 29, Bhabana Sarma addressed the public directly:

– She left Guwahati on her own accord on April 24 intending to end her life due to prolonged mental agony.
– She stressed that no third party, cab driver, or outsider was involved in her departure, and CCTV footage would support this.
– The “I am in danger” message to her mother was sent while she was not mentally stable, feeling anxious and confused.
– The next morning, she reconsidered her decision, sought help from a woman, contacted her family, and returned safely with the assistance of Assam Police.

Sarma further alleged that she had been facing emotional pressure and threats, including the circulation of private photos and videos, from a two-year relationship with Nihar Jyoti Sarma, her boyfriend. Both families were reportedly aware of the relationship. She claimed this caused her significant fear and distress over time.

She has now filed an FIR and is cooperating fully with the police. In her statement, Sarma urged others going through similar emotional turmoil not to remain silent and to seek help promptly.

Police had earlier ruled out kidnapping or abduction, attributing the incident primarily to mental health issues. Her boyfriend had also made a public statement earlier, acknowledging their relationship and last contact.

The case, which initially sparked fears about women’s safety in Guwahati, has now been resolved as a personal matter. Bhabana Sarma is back home and safe. Authorities and mental health advocates have highlighted the importance of addressing emotional well-being and seeking timely support in such situations.
