Indian Railways Introduces Blanket Covers in AC Coaches to Enhance Passenger Hygiene and Comfort
In a move aimed at improving hygiene and comfort for millions of passengers, Indian Railways has launched a new initiative to provide blanket covers in air-conditioned (AC) coaches. Until now, Indian Railways provided blankets, bedsheets, and pillow covers as part of its linen service for passengers in air-conditioned coaches. To address this issue, the ministry decided to introduce removable blanket covers that act as a fresh, washable layer between the passenger and the blanket. These covers can be changed and laundered more frequently than the blankets themselves, ensuring a cleaner and more hygienic environment.

According to official guidelines, Indian Railways currently washes its blankets once every 30 days, while bedsheets and pillow covers are washed after each use.
