Mohamed Salah’s Transfer Options: Saudi Arabia, MLS, or Italy Emerge as Most Likely Destinations

As Mohamed Salah enters the final months of his Liverpool contract, speculation about his future has intensified. The Egyptian superstar, who turns 34 in 2026, is widely expected to leave Anfield this summer, with experts narrowing his realistic options to three destinations: the Saudi Pro League, Major League Soccer (MLS), or a return to Italy’s Serie A.

Former Liverpool midfielder and pundit Didi Hamann recently outlined the situation clearly. While Salah has delivered elite performances for the Reds—consistently scoring and assisting at the highest level—no Premier League club is likely to meet his wage demands for a player perceived as entering the twilight of his career.

“I’d be surprised if there are any takers in the Premier League,” Hamann said. “I think Saudi, MLS, or maybe Italy are the most likely destinations.”

Saudi Arabia stands out as the most lucrative option. Saudi clubs have aggressively pursued aging superstars with massive contracts, offering life-changing money and a competitive environment. For Salah, this would represent a significant payday while allowing him to maintain a high profile in a league that continues to grow globally.

MLS has become an increasingly attractive landing spot for veteran talents, especially following Lionel Messi’s transformative impact at Inter Miami. The league’s alignment with European calendars, rising competitiveness, and strong marketing opportunities in North America make it appealing. Salah could enjoy a high-quality, less physically demanding environment while enjoying major commercial appeal.

Italy (Serie A) offers a more nostalgic or football-focused path. Salah enjoyed success in European leagues earlier in his career, and Serie A clubs could provide a platform for him to continue competing at a high level with potentially lower intensity than the Premier League. A move to a competitive Italian side would keep him in Europe, which some reports suggest the Egyptian FA prefers for national team considerations.

Salah’s situation remains fluid. He has been instrumental in Liverpool’s recent successes, and any departure would mark the end of a remarkable chapter. While no bids have been confirmed, the summer transfer window promises to be eventful if the forward decides to move on.

For now, Saudi Arabia offers the biggest financial incentive, MLS provides lifestyle and legacy appeal, and Italy represents a football-pure European option. Whichever path Salah chooses, his next chapter will be one of the biggest stories of the 2026 transfer season.
