In a heartwarming story that blends academic rigour with extraordinary athletic grit, Nandil Biswa Sarma, son of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has successfully completed the prestigious full Ironman triathlon in Vietnam.
On May 10, 2026, in Da Nang, Vietnam, Nandil took on one of the world’s most gruelling one-day endurance events — the full Ironman — which consists of a 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycling, and a full 42.2 km marathon run. After just 7-8 months of dedicated training, the fifth-year law student crossed the finish line in approximately 16 hours, marking a significant personal triumph.
Nandil is currently pursuing his BA LLB (Hons.) at the prestigious National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru. A former student of The Doon School, where he served as school captain, he had earlier completed the half-Ironman (Ironman 70.3) in Bahrain in December 2025. His latest feat demonstrates an impressive ability to balance demanding final-year law studies with elite-level endurance training.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma proudly shared the news on social media, expressing immense joy as a father. He wrote:
