Steam Deck OLED Returns to Stock with Significant Price Hikes

Valve has officially restocked the Steam Deck OLED models on its online store after an extended period of shortages. However, the return comes with a major drawback: substantial price increases that have left many in the gaming community surprised and disappointed.

Sharp Price Increases

As of May 28, 2026, the new pricing for the Steam Deck OLED models reflects increases of roughly 40-46% compared to previous levels:

  • 512GB OLED model: Now priced at $789 (previously $549), a hike of $240.
  • 1TB OLED model (with etched glass): Now $949 (previously $649), up by $300.

These hikes have been applied across multiple regions, including Europe, Canada, and Australia. The hardware specifications remain unchanged — customers are still getting the same 7.4-inch HDR OLED screen, AMD Zen 2-based APU, 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, and solid handheld performance that made the device popular.

Behind the Price Surge

The primary reason for both the previous stock shortages and the current price increases is the global shortage of RAM and NAND flash storage. This “RAMageddon” has been driven by surging demand from AI data centers, affecting many electronics manufacturers throughout 2026. Valve has repeatedly cited component constraints as the cause of inconsistent availability.

Despite the higher costs, the company notes that stock levels may continue to fluctuate due to ongoing supply chain challenges.

Availability and Alternatives

Both the 512GB and 1TB OLED models are currently listed as in stock on the official Steam store, with shipping estimates of 3-5 business days for supported regions. Refurbished Steam Deck LCD models (the older non-OLED versions) remain available at more affordable prices, starting from around $279 to $319.

For buyers in India, additional factors such as import duties, shipping fees, and currency conversion could push the effective cost even higher. Potential buyers are advised to check the official Steam store or authorized resellers for the latest details.

Community Response

Reactions across gaming forums and social media have been mixed. Many long-time fans feel the new prices make the Steam Deck less competitive against newer handheld rivals like the ASUS ROG Ally X. Some are opting to hunt for used or refurbished units, while others are holding out hope for a potential “Steam Deck 2” or hardware refresh in the future. On the positive side, supporters highlight that the device continues to deliver excellent portable PC gaming experiences, particularly for those who value Steam’s ecosystem and controls.

Whether the updated pricing will impact long-term demand remains to be seen, but the restock provides an immediate option for those eager to get their hands on Valve’s handheld despite the premium.

Prospective buyers should weigh the current prices carefully against their needs and consider waiting for potential market stabilization or new announcements from Valve.
