One of the strongest signals that Apple is taking this product seriously is its approach to industrial design. Unlike Meta, which partners with EssilorLuxottica for Ray-Ban branding, Apple is developing the frames entirely in-house. Reports indicate the company is testing at least four distinct styles. These include a large rectangular frame reminiscent of classic Wayfarers, a slimmer rectangular design similar to the glasses regularly worn by outgoing CEO Tim Cook, a larger oval or circular option, and a smaller, more refined oval shape. The variety suggests Apple wants to offer options that suit different face shapes and personal styles rather than locking customers into a single look.

Material choice further underscores the premium positioning. The frames are expected to use acetate, a durable and higher-end alternative to the standard plastics common in many smart glasses. The cameras themselves are being designed as vertically oriented oval modules with surrounding indicator lights. The first-generation Apple Glasses will not include any form of heads-up display or augmented reality overlays. This is a deliberate departure from earlier rumors that envisioned micro-OLED or waveguide technology projecting information onto the lenses. By skipping the display, Apple can keep the glasses lighter, more power-efficient, and far less expensive to produce. The experience will instead rely on cameras, microphones, speakers, and tight integration with the iPhone.

Users should be able to take photos and record video, including the possibility of spatial video that works with Apple’s existing ecosystem.
